Empowering women from communities to become storytellers for young girls
The Chunri Readers Book Club empowers literate women from underprivileged communities to become leaders, story readers, and mentors for young girls aged 7–12. Through training and guided storytelling sessions, these women – known as Chunri Bajis – gain the confidence and skills to lead read-aloud sessions that nurture compassion, tolerance, and a love for learning.
Launched in February 2023 in Lyari, Karachi, in collaboration with Dreams of Youth Official, this program gives women the tools and support to make a real impact — including book bags, storybooks, props, and a community library system for managing book lending and independent reading.
Who is a Chunri Baji?
A Chunri Baji is a trained, literate young woman who becomes a changemaker within her community. She leads small reading circles, engages girls in eight story sessions, and uses stories as a bridge to discuss socio-emotional learning, gender equality, compassion, and shared humanity.
Through these safe, inspiring spaces, girls build confidence, develop empathy, and learn to dream bigger.

Through the Chunri Readers Book Club, GoRead.pk is working toward UN SDG Goal 5 – Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls.
By equipping young women to inspire and mentor younger girls, we’re creating a self-sustaining ecosystem of female readers and storytellers, shaping a peaceful, literate, and empowered Pakistan.
